The New Normal for TCS, Oyo, Paytm, Uber and other unicorns' employees
- India Startup Review

A mass layoff is the part of the COVID-19 driven undercurrent of India Inc. Oyo, PayTM and dozens of major Indian startups have shifted the priorities to ‘survival mode’ and designed their layoff plans or a prolonged work without pay plans ( from 90 to 120 days) for their employees, without a guarantee to return to work. We expect an influx of unemployed skilled staff to increase in India by Mid-May 2020 and the stressed job market will fail to provide opportunities for all. India’s skilled workers need to rethink their employment plans and consider starting something of their own for sustainability.
COVID-19 pandemic has pushed companies to test the work from home model by force. Now companies understand that it is surely possible for their entire business to operate in geographically distributed and remote model.
TCS has made news by planning to place 75% its employees in work from home model by 2025. This is the new normal for India Inc. where communute and office real estate stress can be removed in one shot. It removes stress of the increasingly stressed Indian metro cities where pollution with resume to hazardous level, water sources are drying up, and there are fewer inches left of roads to drive or even walk.
